in 1550 as a chapel of ease, by Duarte Coelho. 1601 was the
church donated to the jesuit priests. They begun catechism of
the indigenous population and they begun to construct the
Royal College of Olinda, too. Burnt down by the Dutch, it was
restored from 1660 onwards. The side altars of this church are
the oldest stone monuments of
Brazil
(17th Century). Holy Mass Sunday at 08 : 00 a. m., Tuesday at 19 :00 p. m. and Saturday at 17 : 00 p. m. Visits from February through June and from August through November, Monday to Friday from 14 : 00 p. m. Phone: 0055 - 81 - 3429.0627 |
