is the oldest church of the Carmelite Order of Brazil from
1588. At the beginning of the twentieth century the Convent
was broken off.
On the 1st floor is installed the Regional Institute of
the IPHAN - Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico
Nacional (Institute of National Historical and Artistic
Patrimony). A part of the interior of the church is unfortunately completely
new constructed. More modern, the overall view not adapted
huge staircase, in iron-, concrete- and structural steelwork, leads to in the Basilica in order to insert office space above of the IPHAN. Holy Mass each sunday at 11 : 00 a.m. Phone: 0055 - 81 - 3429.2892 |
